Connecting and reconnecting accounts
How each platform connection is made, why platforms end connections on their own schedule, what the expiry labels mean, and how to reconnect without losing scheduled posts.
Nine platforms, nine sets of rules about how long a connection lasts. Schedchie shows you where each one stands, renews what can be renewed, and tells you when a platform wants you back on its consent screen.
Connecting an account
Open Dashboard → Account groups, pick the Group the account belongs to, and choose the platform tile. You land on that platform's own consent screen, approve the permissions it lists, and come back. The account appears in the Group and is immediately schedulable.
- Grant every permission the screen asks for. A partial grant connects, then fails at publish time on the thing you skipped.
- Facebook connects Pages, not personal profiles; you need an admin, editor or moderator role on the Page.
- X needs a live add-on balance before it will connect at all.
- Connecting more accounts costs nothing extra — there is no per-channel price here.
Why connections end on their own
Platforms hand out access with an expiry attached, and each one decided differently. Three patterns cover all nine:
| Platform | How its access behaves | What you do |
|---|---|---|
| Renews automatically | Nothing | |
| Threads | Renews automatically | Nothing |
| Renews automatically | Nothing | |
| Bluesky | Renews automatically | Nothing |
| No expiry on Page access | Nothing | |
| YouTube | No expiry on a clock | Nothing |
| X (Twitter) | No expiry on a clock | Nothing |
| TikTok | Fixed deadline, renewal does not extend it | Reconnect when the countdown runs low |
| Fixed deadline, renewal does not extend it | Reconnect when the countdown runs low |
A sweep runs every day at 08:30 UTC and renews everything renewable — Instagram, Threads, Pinterest, TikTok, Bluesky and YouTube — well before anything is due to lapse. TikTok and LinkedIn also get an email a week before their deadline, because those two cannot be renewed in the background.
Reconnect early, not late
What the labels mean
Next to a healthy account
| Label | Meaning |
|---|---|
Auto-renews | The platform lets us keep it alive. Nothing to do. |
Doesn't expire | The platform attached no clock to it. |
14 days left | A fixed deadline is coming. Amber under 7 days, red under 3. |
Renewal stopped | Renewal is no longer possible for this connection — reconnect it. |
Expired | The deadline has passed. Reconnect it. |
When an account needs you
| Badge | Meaning | Fix |
|---|---|---|
Reconnect required | The platform invalidated the access, or it expired. | Press Reconnect and approve the consent screen. |
Permission problem | The connection is missing a permission the platform now requires, or the account itself is restricted at the platform. | Fix it at the platform, then reconnect and grant everything. |
Add-on required | X posts are out of balance. | Top up the add-on. The account keeps working the moment you do. |
Needs attention | Something else about this connection needs a look. | Hover the badge for the platform’s own explanation. |
Hovering any of these badges shows the full sentence the platform gave, which is usually specific enough to act on directly. The same explanation is in the email you get when an account first goes into that state.
Reconnecting
In Dashboard → Account groups, an account that needs you carries a Reconnect link next to it. Inside the Group detail, the same thing is a refresh icon labelled Refresh connection (keeps your posts). Either one sends you to the platform's consent screen; approve it and you are back.
- Reconnect the same account. Reconnecting a different account on the same platform is a new connection, not a repair.
- Grant every permission on the screen, including any the platform has added since you last connected.
- Signed in to the platform as someone else in that browser? Switch there first, or the consent screen will offer you the wrong account.
What happens to scheduled posts
Scheduled posts survive a disconnect. When an account leaves, its posts are not deleted — the account is set aside on each one and the post is marked as waiting for it. Reconnect the same account and every post still in the future is restored to it automatically, on its original schedule.
- A post that also targets other accounts keeps publishing to those, on time. It shows as
PartialorDisconnectedso you can see the gap. - There is no deadline on the restore. Reconnect a week later and the posts still ahead of you come back.
- Posts whose scheduled time passed while the account was away do not travel forward in time. Reschedule those.
If you deliberately disconnect an account, the confirmation says the same thing: posts are paused, and restored if you reconnect the same account.
Platform-specific fixes
Facebook: "administrator, editor, or moderator"
Facebook refuses publishing when your user does not hold one of those roles on the Page, and when the Page requires two-factor authentication that your Facebook account has not switched on. Fix the role or the 2FA in Meta Business Suite, then reconnect.
Instagram: a security check
Instagram sometimes locks an account pending its own verification. Sign in at instagram.com directly, complete what it asks, then reconnect here. Nothing on this side can clear an Instagram checkpoint.
Missing permissions
If a platform reports insufficient permissions, the consent screen was completed with something unticked. Reconnect and accept the whole list.
YouTube: a suspended channel
Publishing stays paused while YouTube reports the channel as suspended. Resolve it with YouTube, then reconnect.
Once an account is healthy again, anything that failed while it was away can be re-sent — see why a post failed for how retry picks up only the accounts that missed.
